Like most things in life: one size doesn't fit all! This motto is also absolutely applicable when it comes to facials – making sure you have the perfect skin care routine , as well as the best facial for you, can really set you apart and ensure that you love the skin you’re in.

What sets customized facials apart from standard facial treatments?

Let’s start off with the basics: Everyone is different! Even the best spa treatments can have varying effects on skin depending on the canvas that’s being worked with. Mapping out a specialized treatment for each individual ensures that the high quality products being used make the biggest impact on the skin.

Treatment recommendations from a professional, licensed esthetician

Sure, a standard facial treatment will leave your skin better than it was before, but a customized facial ensures that your skin gets the love and care it needs to glow in its best form. A licensed esthetician will walk through your skin type and devise a “roadmap” to gorgeous skin based on their knowledge and professional opinion. Having a trained professional will ensure you start on the way to the results you’re looking for with a truly strategic approach.

Results-driven and focused on your unique skin concerns

Another benefit to having a customized facial is that these treatments are completely driven by the need for results. When consulting with a licensed esthetician, they will walk through where your skin is now (is it dry? Oily? Are there breakouts? etc.) and work with you to overcome your unique skin concerns. Sure, everyone wants to have generally youthful, glowing, and healthy looking skin, but sometimes a little more than just a moisturizer is needed to tackle stubborn skin issues.

Some of the treatments utilized as part of your custom facial

If a custom facial is something that you think you’d want to pursue, it’s important to know what treatments can be used as part of your personalized session. Let’s take a look at some of the basics that can be used on various skin types:

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is simple – it involves the use of a medical-grade scalpel that is gently run over the areas of concern at a 45 degree angle. The blade will gently remove any peach fuzz as well as dead skin. The goal of using such a sharp blade is to not only remove any facial hair, but to also encourage even skin tone and texture through the production of collagen within the skin as the body's skin cells work to repair the gently grazed area.

Cryotherapy

While cryotherapy may sound like it’s from the future, the truth is that it’s been used for years to tighten the skin and create a brighter, more youthful appearance. The process is accomplished by pumping vaporized liquid nitrogen onto the skin for about 12 minutes. The cooling effect reduces pores and fine lines while tightening the skin ever so subtly – giving an immediate anti-aging appearance.

Facial cupping

While not as widely known, facial cupping is a tool utilized to promote circulation within the face. Similar to body cupping , facial cupping uses smaller, more malleable cups to stimulate your skin and surrounding muscles. The results are intended to lessen fine lines and encourage cell production in the treated area.

Manual extractions

Manual extractions are exactly what they sound like – manually purging the skin of buildup. If you're hoping to get a custom facial in the hopes of improving acne, or breakouts and blackheads, a manual extraction is most likely a must. Obtaining clear skin is difficult to do without properly draining active acne and unclogging backed up pores. It is crucial, however, to leave this part of the deep cleansing acne treatment to a professional when possible, as too much strain on the skin can cause permanent damage and scarring.

Hydrating jelly mask

A hydrating jelly mask is a fun and efficient way to bring hydration into the skin. These hydrating jelly masks ensure that essential nutrients get packed back into the skin leaving it subtle, soft and glowing. When the skin is sufficiently hydrated it can bring back a youthful look and reduce the look of pores and lines on the skin.

A vajacial treatment is basically a facial for your vulva that includes the bikini and outer labia area. While the skin around your vulva and on your pubic bone is different from your facial skin, it's still thin and sensitive compared to the thicker skin around your body. It deserves the care, attention, and hydrating products, just like anywhere else!

Similar in nature to its sister practice, body cupping, facial cupping uses small applicators to gently suction the skin on your face, lifting it from around the muscles on your face. Facial cupping enhances your skin by allowing blood to better circulate around the desired areas.
